Our History
FALEO was established to promote fraternal relationships and cultural awareness amongst all members (sworn and non-sworn) in law enforcement. FALEO is committed to supporting cultural, educational, recreational, and charitable services within our Communities and is organized exclusively for charitable/educational purposes within the meaning of
Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The founding FALEO-San Francisco Chapter was established in 2010 after an on duty death of Filipino American San Francisco Police Officer Nick Birco. It was at that time when Filipino Law Enforcement Officers in the Bay Area decided to form the founding Chapter as a way to build networking, sharing training information, and camaraderie amongst each other.
Some of the founding members were already active in the San Francisco Police Department’s Philippines Exchange Training Program (P.E.T), which was also established in 2000 as a comprehensive exchange training program with the primary mission of presenting, discussing and sharing best practices and current trends in policing with members of the Philippines National Police. In 2010, FALEO has since solely taken over the P.E.T program from SFPD and continues to travel back to the Philippines annually to bring donated equipment and conduct pertinent trainings.
Today FALEO has expanded and now has Chapters in Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, Las Vegas and with tentative expansion in New York. With our expansions, membership continues to grow as well as its diversity in new members. It is important to reiterate that FALEO is open to all ethnicities and currently has many non-Filipino members who embodies the motto “Stand up and be counted”.
FALEO is committed to creating an atmosphere of camaraderie with other law enforcement professionals and agencies. Together we take great pride in supporting our communities here and overseas, with scholarships, charities, training, resource speakers, and fundraisers. Being part of the Association allows members to be part of something greater than themselves and help with the concept of “Paying it forward”. Members also receive the benefit of being part of Association social gatherings and support in career advancement.
FALEO-Sacramento Chapter was established in July 2019 with members from California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation – Adult Institutions and Adult Parole divisions, Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, Los Rios Police Department, Sacramento Probation Department, along with the assistance of local community leaders.
